Study For Oleanders
March 6, 2009
After setting up various still life items, I decided to do a small study and explore the design shapes and colors. Not having any fresh flowers, I used a picture of a bouquet. What excited me about this was the spring lemon-yellow-greens of Van Gogh’s “Oleanders”. I love this color and works well with the […] more »
Braeburns

I completed this still life with two new glassware pieces, given to me by my daughter. The reflections were difficult to render in the vase and tall bottle, but I like the arrangement of the fruit, wood table and drapery. more »

But I also have been framing two commissions and delivering them out of town, which sometimes breaks my concentration — it usually goes more smoothly. I […] more »
Two at a Time
October 28, 2008
Just to keep things interesting, I have been working on two different paintings simultaneously. I believe this pushes me to keep my work fresh and uniquely distinctive. I began this week on the watercolor of the glassware still life, which includes the tall amber-colored bottle. This bottle was also a part of my teapot series […] more »
Garden Bouquet
October 25, 2008
This week I set aside the barn collage after working a bit on the roof shapes and windows, and thinking about a good sky color to complement the barn textures. I completed a quick watercolor painting of some of my last garden flowers of the year — pink cosmos and red & yellow gaillardias. There […] more »
