This petite old barn collage is a continuation of my Iowa series work, which I really love to do. I favor a square format instead of the typical horizontal landscape composition. It seems more interesting and it is a challenging design method. I also find it more difficult to work in a smaller image than my usual larger pieces because I have to cut much smaller shapes and fit them together like a puzzle.

Using artistic license, I combined two photos and created a completely new landscape design. The barn was actually a dull beat-up gray and uninteresting, so I used a bright red to make the center of interest more exciting. The fields around the barn were weedy and dull, so I decided some rolling hills and hay bales would repeat patterns and shapes to contribute to the design.
