The Continental
November 15, 2010
Why did I paint The Continental Hotel again? I’ve lost count how many times I’ve painted this building — the old historic hotel in Centerville. I’m attracted to architectural structures and have never painted it from this angle (from State Street, looking at it from a northeast direction). The oblong sign on the corner, the […] more »
Bradley Hall
November 3, 2010
This is Bradley Hall from a different angle than the first painting I did. I plan to continue painting a series of Centerville scenes of the historic landmarks and square businesses. more »
Pomeranians
October 27, 2010
The watercolor was inspired by the recent dog show my daughter and I attended in Des Moines. My intent was to photograph as many breeds as possible, which was a little tricky as most of the people were shampooing and brushing their dogs in preparation for the show ring. A young gal was holding three […] more »
Perjue Cabin
October 7, 2010
Perjue Cabin was built and lived in by one of Appanoose County’s earliest white settlers in 1843, Andrew Perjue. This was before Iowa was a state and still inhabited by Indians. It was dismantled, rebuilt and stood in the Centerville Park for several years. It is no longer there — I have no idea if […] more »
Centerville Drummers
September 22, 2010
This is fourth in the series of the 1996 Pancake Day marching band. more »
Trombones
September 20, 2010
This is part of my marching band series. I tried to paint one each day. That didn’t work out because of the format size — almost 11 x 14 — but considering I was able to complete 4 of these in about a week in time to display for Pancake Day, I thought that was […] more »
Flag Girls
September 15, 2010
A piece from the series of the marching band on Pancake Day 1996. The girls were lining up before the big parade. I believe I captured the essence and likenesses — many people have recognized them. more »
Alfalfa Butterfly
September 14, 2010
This is an interpretation of a common butterfly. In the past, I’ve completed 4 other varieties and have been popular with customers. In this piece I took liberties using color combinations. This will be part of a series and I plan to use sketches done a few years ago. more »
Drummers
September 13, 2010
These two young drummers caught my eye because they were wearing red artist “tams”. I think this drum group was from Iowa City and marched in the 1996 Pancake Day parade. I worked from one of my photos. I had planned to do a series of these smaller paintings of the marching band, at least […] more »
Ottumwa’s Walk on Art Street
September 9, 2010
Last Saturday was a great day for the outdoor Art Festival in Ottumwa. Sunshine, little winds, and temps in the mid 70’s — we couldn’t get better weather! I really appreciated this since this was the first time I set up my new ProPanels display. Most of the artwork I brought were my acrylic collages […] more »
