Asian Pagoda, Des Moines
Des Moines architecture has always interested me. I am currently working on a new architecture series of Des Moines and will exhibit a joint show with fellow partner this October. I usually take a lot of reference photos for a project, choose the best angle to portray it and then complete a drawing to use for the collage’s foundation.
This pagoda is highly detailed and I had to edit and simplify the shapes. That is one reason I enjoy creating collages; much is left to the imagination and it does not get fussy with extra detailing. The colors of this building combine secondary colors of orange and green. I use my pre-painted acrylic collage papers and use tracing paper to cut each shape and build the design gradually, making adjustments as I create.
