Red Bull/Recycled Series #2
I began this series by taking loads of photographs of the crushed metal cans at the landfill. It was an endless composition of mangled metal — about twelve feet high and six feet wide. Each of my watercolor designs is just a small piece of the whole. I found the ribbed patterns exciting with some of the labels partially visible; the areas of gray shapes set off the small bits of color. The distortions of the abstract shapes were very cool to me and think the painting captured the best qualities that I observed. It is true that if you really take the time and look around you, there are quite of lot of interesting things to paint!
