Engine Abstraction #7
I’m been designing and creating another acrylic collage of the train engines. This is a close up composition which are geometric shapes and bold colors. There are so many details on train engines that you don’t notice when taking a photograph.
I begin with a cropped photo and work the design out in a sketchbook first, editing and simplifying the shapes. The paint texture on the metal structure is interesting itself, and using the thick textured painted papers is the best way to describe the shapes. The colors I used for this painting are cadmium orange, yellows, black, burnt umber, burnt sienna and mixed grays. The support is Ampersand archival gessoboard.
