Engine Abstraction #11

Engine Abstraction #11

Acrylic collage

Working in a series is a commitment to a unified body of work. This painting is a continuation of the train designs I began in 2010. I am fascinated by the interlocking engine shapes and various details. This composition is an extreme close-up. I always begin by doing a detailed drawing in colored pencil, and use the grid system to transfer the design to the gessoed hardboard. All the elements and principles of design are found in the shapes and colors of the engines. My work is described by bold pigments and strong designs.
