My first watercolor since the COVID-19 outbreak is of Artisan Gallery 218. I love painting small local scenes, and this is a series I began since our gallery closed. I miss the daily work schedule and meeting new people every day who visit from around the country.
I have always been interested in the simple geometric shapes of the buildings and surroundings. Working from my photographs, I begin by sketching the design on 140# cold press watercolor paper; it has a good tooth and does not buckle much since it is a quarter sheet (11 x 14 inches). The painting is simplified otherwise there are too many details to worry about. Good values and strong design are most important.
