Goliath Sunflowers #2
I am inspired by big, colorful sunflowers. This is a continuation of a theme I have done throughout the past years. I have explored these bold flowers in my sketchbooks, notes and ideas, color swatches and patterns.
I have completed many paintings of them in the watercolor medium and have explored this theme in paper collage. My goal when using acrylic pigments is a thicker, saturated surface with brighter pigments. I am a colorist and not afraid to combine unusual varieties of stark pigments that accentuate the flower shapes. Sketching flowers from life provides more details and I usually do contour drawings to describe these active and exciting blooms.
