Nineteenth Amendment
This painting is part of my Women’s History Month series. I began by sketching from my personal reference photos, taken at our last year’s spring open house. I particularly liked the dresses with their sashes proclaiming their right to vote. The backgrounds are all different in this series, to add more interest and color to the figurative shapes. The yellow roses along the bottom are a symbol of the suffragists.
My support for all my collages is a gessoed hardboard. Each piece is finished with a UV satin varnish for protection.
