Goblets and Barn Paintings In Progress

August 19, 2008

Reference photoLooking at the week ahead — in addition to preparing for the upcoming festival in Albia — I have many projects in the works. Over the weekend I gathered my newest goblets and Miss Liberty photos — and took them all out to the gazebo and set up an arrangement. I also added fabric with the flag motif and an amber wine bottle for this still life. The different glass colors interest me as well as the abstract patterns and distortions through the transparency of the goblets. I took many reference photographs — the compositions are endless!

Also in progress is my next barn collage. I did a loose contour drawing of a barn on Hwy T61, using a photo I took in September 2004. It was one of those beautiful sunny fall days. I drove the length of this highway — it was recommended by a friend who is also interested in old barns. This particular barn may not be there anymore; most of it was collapsed when I took the photo. I also added some equine shapes to the foreground for additional design interest.
