Backgammon
The shape and color of this old telephone continues to appear in my still lifes. Also, it is now an antique. I paired it with the game board and cobalt goblets, one of which recently was broken. I love the deep ultramarine blues and the aqua shades — those colors find their way into my setups! The wood texture is another reoccurring element, and the geometric shapes. The we- on-wet texture of the wood granulated nicely for the background — it was unplanned and I like the results! Painting the telephone required special attention, since it was in the foreground and the shadows had to be softened with a bristle brush. I seem to be removing areas of paint to achieve the lighter passages.
