This collage is a continuation of my Des Moines architecture series and was completed specifically for the gallery’s Fall Open House event. I begin by taking reference photos from different angles, composing the shapes of the buildings with the landscape surrounding it. There’s a lot going on in the photograph, so I edit while designing in pencil on the gessoed hardboard. All the elements of design are considered while I work. What inspired me about this design was the church steeple in front of the state capitol and the linear design of the bridge angles.
