RAGBRAI Series Ten
My inspiration for this piece was to continue exploring the interesting bicycle shapes and forms that define it. Another challenge was working in a square format, which I find daunting at times. Working with a rectangular forms in a square format challenges you to rethink design possibilities and it keeps your work fresh.
Instead of abstracting the wheels, spokes and framework, I fit the design in a close- up format. I decided a plain, light value, solid background would work instead of using my usual variety of colors. The shapes are not as abstracted as some of the other bicycle collages in this series. They are all different in design and color. I also concentrated on the Iowa cities that RAGBRAI visits and used pieces of these map shapes. They add interest to the composition.
