I based this on one of my watercolor prints of a barn in southeast Iowa that I painted many years ago, but I redesigned the composition using big, simple shapes and edited as I worked. more »
I have been inspired by the Midwest landscape for many years. The sprawling fields, rustic barns and sheds are a few elements that capture my interest. I began painting these old structures around 1995 and have painted over one hundred landscapes since then. more »
This collage is part of my bicycle series inspired by the yearly RAGBRAI event that happens every July in Iowa. This design is the actual route taken in 2019, and includes the cities of Council Bluffs, Atlantic, Winterset, Indianola, Centerville, Fairfield, Burlington and Keokuk. more »
I have not completed many paintings with blue as the predominant color. Most of my acrylic collages contain a full range of colors. Completing a monochromatic piece was a fun and exciting challenge. more »
My inspiration for this piece was to continue exploring the interesting bicycle shapes and forms that define it. Another challenge was working in a square format, which I find daunting at times. Working with a rectangular forms in a square format challenges you to rethink design possibilities and it keeps your work fresh. more »

I am inspired to paint the old weathered barns in the Midwest. They are full of character. They are perched on hills or tucked into the landscape just waiting to be sketched and painted. more »
This is a row of spotted Holstein dairy cows — I love the black and white patterns of them. I decided on painting the plain background first, in a neutral color so it wouldn’t conflict with the positive shapes of the cows. This is a whimsical design of nine Iowa hogs running through the tulips. Not something you see every day. I used pieces of an Iowa map for the sky shape and a variety of different colored hogs, plus a green-grass foreground and some happy red and pink tulips. more »
