Summertime
This watercolor painting was inspired by my garden flowers that I picked for a table bouquet. It is my favorite subject to paint; I love the colors and freshness of the flowers.
I do many sketches from different angles, in different lighting situations and backgrounds. It is usually painted a section at a time and I wet the area first to soften the sizing on the paper, which contributes to the brighter pigments. My goal was a looser depiction and wet-in-wet soft rendition of the flowers. As I paint each section, each shape relates to its neighbor and when I’m finished the result is a unified and harmonious effect.
