Teapot Still Life #25

Teapot Still Life #25

July 2, 2019

I began this piece last year and set it aside to think about the direction I was going with it. The design excited me with the triangular shapes, the bouquet of flowers, pears and teapots. more »

Outside Larkspurs & Peonies in Lime

Outside Larkspurs & Peonies in Lime

March 6, 2017

My inspiration for this painting: these fresh cut flowers from my garden were gorgeous in color and begged to be painted! I never tire of painting flowers. Everything about them motivate me to paint them; the vivid colors and shapes and tiny details. When I observe flowers to paint, I always begin with lots of […] more »

Ruby Vase & Pears

Ruby Vase & Pears

February 4, 2013

I’m back doing a still life with my favorite glassware. I recently purchased the round, ruby vase that I thought would be great in a set-up. With each glass composition I painted, I thought about other possibilites for designs — it gets more exciting with each painting I complete. This painting is basically a primary triad of red, yellow and blue. Another challenge […] more »

Four Goblets and Pears

Four Goblets and Pears

October 17, 2006

Today I’m working on the third goblets design — I had hoped to set up another still life with the new glassware, but the sun isn’t cooperating . This design has four goblets with pears, and I’m observing the reflections in the glass and how the light distorts the shapes behind the glass, creating wonderful […] more »

Goblets #2

Goblets #2

October 8, 2006

A smaller version of the first design — an intimate close-up. The pears have lots of color reflections, and the goblets had lots of bubbles in the glass, which I simplified. What intrigued me was the fruit and handle shapes reflected in the goblet’s stems. more »
