One Mile East of Allerton
I always wanted to paint this barn, and I’m finally getting around to it. This is a historic, round barn in Wayne County, Iowa. There are not many round barns left and they are interesting characters! Working from a photo, I enhanced all the weathered boards and roof in my usual bold, saturated pigments of ultramarine, mahogany-red, textured grays and accents of yellow and green. I particularly liked the double-zee barn doors and small windows. The image size is a bit larger than I planned originally, and I feel the square format enhances the artwork.
My goal was to finish a series of these barn collages for the upcoming art festival this weekend. All I have left to do is assemble the frames I mitred yesterday and cut the glass; I have already cut the mats.
