Wildflowers

Acrylic collage

I was inspired to do this collage because my main focus lately has been botanicals, and we have planted part of an acre of our property dedicated to wildflowers, hoping to bring more butterflies and bees to our area. The varieties we have are beautiful, and I have sketched from some I have picked. I started to cut the basic shapes of each flower, editing because they have tiny, detailed parts. This was a smaller piece and I used a heavy 300-pound watercolor paper for the support. I decided a simple, geometric background using two colors would complement the colors of the flowers. My background colors for this are a light pink and lime green. I have painted coneflowers many times as they are favorites. Added to the composition are black-eyed susans, and lavender blazing stars. A UV varnish was applied afterwards to protect the painting.
