Road Trip #2
July 15, 2013
This is a continuation of an abstract collage design I completed for an upcoming competition. At the start, I chose and cut various shapes of papers and played with different configurations until the design pleased me. What usually happens with the design is an evolving of shapes, patterns and textures. Early on, I decided that […] more »
Road Trip #1
June 7, 2013
Lately I have been working on some non-objective pieces specifically for upcoming competitions. Easier said than done! It is pure design without any reference photos, so I began playing with a limited number of cut paper shapes and re-arranging them until I was satisfied with the design. I find it very difficult at times critiquing […] more »

My artwork is currently in two new shows: the Iowa Watercolor Society and “Celebrate the Bicycle!” Two of my watercolors, License to Paint and Gordie’s and The American Legion are exhibited in the first annual IWS Miniature Watermedia show at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in West Des Moines. The intent of this show is to […] more »
Biking #2
March 1, 2013
In the back of my mind, I have always wanted to do another bicycle design in collage. When I received an invitation for an upcoming show with a bicycle theme, I got to work right away! I took a few photos of an antique bicycle, which was my reference for this composition. The main objective […] more »

I started painting these Union Pacific Engines two years ago, after we drove past them on our way to the local recycling […] more »
Mission Bay

The reflections of the boats and their masts on the water is what inspired me to paint this scene. My brother-in-law Bill took us for an outing here, which is a very scenic tourist area. There were also a lot of sea birds and a walkway around the inlet. The reflection shadows were very striking. […] more »
Bubba & Mickey
May 19, 2012
These are two very devoted canines of my sister’s, and otherwise called “the two knuckleheads” by her husband. They are well-behaved most of the time, and well-trained too. Bubba, the Boston Terrier, is the most energetic dog I’ve ever seen. He runs around the backyard like a maniac–it is fun to watch him gallop wildly. […] more »
Bulldog 2
April 29, 2012
This was a commission of the English Bulldog who won many competitions for this breed, and was a therapy dog in hospitals and clinics. This dog was well-loved by his owner and many people. Unfortunately, he had to be put to sleep because of illness. My sister has two of his puppies, Snoozer and Petey, which […] more »
Fifty-Seven Chevy
December 14, 2011
You don’t see many of these classic cars anymore! It’s as big as a boat and probably twice as heavy. I’d hate to think of parallel parking this baby! This was done as a pencil commission years ago and I had taken many camera shots of this gentleman’s car. I like the lemonade color he painted […] more »
