This particular barn had a stone foundation that was crumbling and a couple uninteresting trees. Sunflowers woke the design and landscape up with their perky, bright colors and tall blooms. more »

I have not completed many paintings with blue as the predominant color. Most of my acrylic collages contain a full range of colors. Completing a monochromatic piece was a fun and exciting challenge. more »
I have painted this particular barn from various viewpoints and love the character it has. Perhaps the barn is no longer standing; many of these beautiful barns have disappeared from our rural landscape. more »
My inspiration for this piece was to continue exploring the interesting bicycle shapes and forms that define it. Another challenge was working in a square format, which I find daunting at times. Working with a rectangular forms in a square format challenges you to rethink design possibilities and it keeps your work fresh. more »

The inspiration for this painting were the people and sights at the downtown Des Moines Farmers Market. One needs to go more than once to take in the vendors, people and food at the summer market in an ever-changing event. more »
I am continually interested in old barn structures, and I photographed this one in Van Buren County, Iowa. I was on my way to the Bentonsport Artisans Co-op and this barn appealed to me, with the tilting brick silo and torn roof. more »
