I began the new year thinking about sunflowers in my garden, and planned to make this a large composition with life-sized blooms. This design was inspired by another artwork I created last year for a juried competition and later sold.

Sunflowers have been a major theme for me over the years. I love the big, showy flowers. They are bold and beautiful. I used cadmium red for most of the background to make the flowers pop. To balance the bright colors, I used soft gray on the table and black for the dark values. All my papers were hand-painted with artist quality acrylics and I used a UV varnish.
