I have been painting Iowa landscapes since early 1985. They are full of character with their geometric shapes -- all are very different and interesting to me. This piece is a section of landscape, taken from an old photo of mine. more »

This painting is a continuation of the train designs I began in 2010. I am fascinated by the interlocking engine shapes and various details. This composition is an extreme close-up. more »
I am always inspired to paint fresh flowers from my garden. The colors are bold and bright, and the various shapes of flowers are fresh and appealing to me. This design includes bunches of cosmos, zinnias, marigolds and sunflowers. more »

This painting is part of my abstract engine designs that I have been working on since April of this year. This close-up includes the yellow Union Pacific engine with windows, stripes and numerals. more »
This is a red and purple barn with lots of lively chickens pecking in the foreground. It is a ramshackle henhouse with a peachy-colored sky. more »

I did not use a sketch, but rather used a close-up section and began by cutting out shapes and arranging them on the gessoed hardboard. It is a section of the brake and wheel, and I just improvised until the design looked good to me. more »
Drawing these segments of train engines constantly challenges me to search for the most interesting designs. This design actually started with more detail, but I decided to crop the photo more. more »
