Dahlias, Creamer & Brushes

Dahlias, Creamer & Brushes

October 4, 2023

This watercolor was designed with a number of elements I have in my collection to set up still lifes. The elements I chose were a fresh dahlia from the garden, a red Carnival glass creamer, a dark green bowl with my art brushes, and a midnight-blue bottle, and I arranged them on a decoration black and white fabric. more »

Teapot Series #22

Teapot Series #22

November 1, 2018

In this composition I sketched three teapots, the donut shape, the traditional black teapot and a British hexagonal variety my mother gave me from her trip to England. For the background I added an antique bottle with my garden cosmos flowers. For fun, I tucked a pumpkin behind one pot. more »

Outside Larkspurs & Peonies in Lime

Outside Larkspurs & Peonies in Lime

March 6, 2017

My inspiration for this painting: these fresh cut flowers from my garden were gorgeous in color and begged to be painted! I never tire of painting flowers. Everything about them motivate me to paint them; the vivid colors and shapes and tiny details. When I observe flowers to paint, I always begin with lots of […] more »

Gourds on Blue

Gourds on Blue

September 29, 2016

My idea was to set up an Autumn still life with fabrics, flowers and fruit. I chose a mini-pumpkin and decorative gourds and set them on a patterned blue-spotted fabric. Patterns galore! The lovely complementary blue color sets off the oranges, yellows and reds. I picked some of the last cosmos blossoms from my garden and set […] more »

This is a small watercolor still life of some of antique bottles and jars. I have done numerous sketches because the transparency of glass interests me, and also the unique bottle shapes. Among the shapes are a clear, frosted larger bottle, an amber square necked jar and two red ones. I usually work from my […] more »

Flute Music and Petunias

This painting was inspired by my garden flowers and antique bottle collection. Still lifes are one of my favorite subject matter to paint, and I love the bright colors of summer flowers! I decided from the start to use some of my flower sketches of our larkspur plants and fire engine red petunias. I began […] more »

Bottlemania

Bottlemania

July 7, 2015

This painting was inspired by the large collection of antique bottles my mother sent me. As I sketched each bottle, I turned my paper in all directions and overlapped the bottles, which made a more interesting arrangement than just standing next to each other on a shelf. more »

Valentine Wishes

Valentine Wishes

March 17, 2015

This piece was inspired by some antique bottles my mother sent me. I love the shapes and colors of the bottles, but I did not use the original colors. I completed numerous drawings of the bottles first, then edited and designed the composition without adhering to the sketches. I allowed for changes while working on […] more »

Clementine & Champagne

Clementine & Champagne

May 6, 2014

This is a new still life setup, which includes many familiar pieces from my collection of objects. I set up the items on a table in our front east window, using the direct sunlight streaming inside. My favorite amber bottles and goblets are the main elements, along with the turquoise striped cloth. The clementine and […] more »
