This painting is part of my never-ending series of botanical collages. Inspired by the bright, bold color and shapes of poppies in my garden, I began with a few sketches to get the creative juices flowing. While I sketch, I do some preliminary planning on what color combinations to use, and possible titles. I usually get more ideas than I need and write down any and all of them.

I am fond of square format designs. I begin by cutting shapes and edit and have fun during the collage building process on the support. I allow the piece to evolve as I work and I’m pleased with the outcome.
