This composition is a continuation of my series of still lifes that I began back in the late 1980s. It is the variations of chair shapes that interest me, and by combining them with tropical plants or flowers I am able to create a unique design that is authentic to me. more »
Over the years I have painted more than one hundred of these chairs- and houseplants-themed watercolors. In this particular painting, I used photographs of a friends' chairs, and I wanted to do something a little different for the plants. more »

Marybeth Heikes was awarded the First Place Cash and Ribbon Prize in the Iowa Watercolor Society’s 28th Annual Exhibition on Sunday, September 11.
