“Teapot Series #13” Wins Honorable Mention
Marybeth Heikes has received an Honorable Mention Award at this year’s Iowa Watercolor Exhibition. She received a cash award and ribbon for her painting Teapots Series #13 at the luncheon and award ceremony September 12 at the Cedar Falls Women’s Clubhouse. The painting was also selected to be part of the 2004–2005 Traveling Show. This show comprises the best watercolor painters in Iowa and each month the exhibit is displayed at a prominent gallery in the state.
Pieces from Heikes’s Teapot Series and her Chairs in the Jungle series have been exhibited in numerous national and international shows. Her work is characterized by strong designs, bold colors, and personal statement. Though basically a watercolor painter, she also produces acrylic collages and detailed pencil portraits on commission.
Heikes is a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society. The designation “IWS” is awarded after an artist is accepted in three exhibits within a ten-year period. Artists cannot enter the same painting twice and the painting must have been completed in the last two years. She is also a signature member of Watercolor West and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.
